Creative Critical Reflection: Production Skills
My production skills improved thoroughly throughout the process of creating Get Schooled. I was able to conduct ample research that allowed me to realize to what extent a magazine must be planned and executed in order to create a successful product. Not only is creating a well organized and visually appealing product necessary, but advertising well and appealing to a specific audience without being too direct as to who should be buying your product is an intriguing challenge to work your way through and overcome. In the end, it became clear to me that all magazines that have become household names have been through lots of processes that determined the best way to present, advertise, and distribute their products. Online media creates new complications, and by researching magazines such as WIRED has enabled me to realize how important it is to compete not only with those products that are delivered door to door every day, but also those seemingly less threatening, but realistically more threatening, online subscription services and websites that allow people and readers to read at their leisure with no strings attached, and no annoying physical copy of a magazine to worry about. Production is an immensely intricate and pertinent part of magazines, and by researching and figuring out the ways of the business, I believe I have created an impressive product.
