Target Audience Research Seventeen

Image
Seventeen Seventeen Magazine is the largest monthly teen media brand, and is an incredibly popular magazine among an age group similar to the one I am targeting. Although Seventeen targets primarily females, and I am hoping to attract a more diversified audience gender wise, it is likely that young women who tend to plan ahead and prepare themselves thoroughly for their future are more likely to read my magazine than spontaneous high school guys, who aren't typically as interested in spending their free time reading about college applications and SAT requirements. Seventeen uses advertising techniques largely related to online platforms, including social media and by using seventeen.com, the largest teen magazine website. Seventeen is a strong digital leader, considering their successful website, Seventeen Now app, and their Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and Instagram that keeps teens updated on their product in a convenient way for their specific audience. Seventeen's publis...

Revisions

Image
I attended a college fair in which schools from around the country came to a local high school. Included schools were the University of Florida, Bucknell University, Lynn University, among others. Here, I took a series of photos in which I chose one to use for my magazine. It is a good angle and a good view of the entire setup. You can clearly see multiple college advisers and their booths. I also have a photoshoot planned for this weekend in which I will be able to take pictures of other students who I will interview, so that will be another revision I can use. I also added page numbers and am working on revamping my table of contents. I still need to make my title bigger on my cover and I need to arrange a photoshoot with Charles, which I may also be able to accomplish this weekend, of if not, after school one day this week or next. I will upload my revamped table of contents after I edit it down, right now I have all of the page numbers and storied listed, but I feel as if I only ne...

Midterm Review

During our class midterm review, I gathered some insight into crating a magazine that looks professional while also conveying the desired message. I also received feedback that will allow me to better my magazine and make it not only more visually appealing, but more functional. The magazines presented were impressive photography wise and editing wise, which are two important features in which my magazine could use some work. In order to make Get Schooled look like a true magazine, I need to include page numbers, an increase in photographic presence, as well as perhaps a different, more magazine-like format for my two page article. My cover has turned out quite well, and I am quite devoted to the picture of Harvard's boathouse that I took, however I am willing to include different information regarding the featured articles. Currently, the included articles on the cover that are meant to draw the attention of potential buyers who are looking for college information are "SAT vs...

Use of Conventions

My project challenges the conventions typically associated with teen directed magazines. Magazines directed toward the age group I am targeting are more often thought of as "juvenile" and "unimportant" reading material, whereas, my magazine is breaking down those barriers by showing how teens are capable of being interested in more serious subject matters that will positively benefit their futures. By straying away from the teenage magazine norms, I am presenting evidence that modern teenagers are well rounded and more capable than sometimes credited to be. I am prospectively creating a new genre of magazine, a magazine that not only targets teens, but also provides important information regarding colleges and universities. It is not in the same category as Teen Vogue or Seventeen, even though the targeted age groups are the same, yet it is also not to be directly associated with magazines such as Time, which provides insight into the life of an adult as well as nec...
