Midterm Review

During our class midterm review, I gathered some insight into crating a magazine that looks professional while also conveying the desired message. I also received feedback that will allow me to better my magazine and make it not only more visually appealing, but more functional. The magazines presented were impressive photography wise and editing wise, which are two important features in which my magazine could use some work. In order to make Get Schooled look like a true magazine, I need to include page numbers, an increase in photographic presence, as well as perhaps a different, more magazine-like format for my two page article. My cover has turned out quite well, and I am quite devoted to the picture of Harvard's boathouse that I took, however I am willing to include different information regarding the featured articles. Currently, the included articles on the cover that are meant to draw the attention of potential buyers who are looking for college information are "SAT vs. ACT," "All About Applications," and "Getting Recruited." These are not my most intriguing articles, but my thought process in including them on the cover was to outline the typical information included in my magazine, which involves, obviously, information related to college applications and acceptance. More enthralling or eye catching articles to include information about on my cover may include "Wise Words from an Educator" or another article I am considering featuring, which would be an interview with a world champion rower, which would certainly attract student-athletes not only looking to get recruited and compete in college sports, but who are also willing to continue putting in the intense academic work that is required for such aspirations. I learned from our midterm review that when adding page numbers, the numbers need to be on the outside bottom corners of the pages, and they need to be more than simple page numbers, they need to represent my brand, They should not appear next to the spine of the magazine, as some of the other students had. I received feedback about my lack of pictures, which I had anticipated, so I am in the process of planning a photo shoot with Charles, the subject of my two page article, as well as student-athletes who are also to be featured in my magazine. I also received a suggestion that I could take a picture of an SAT prep group for my table of contents, since that is one of the stories featured on my cover that I could possibly include an image of for my table of contents. For my table of contents, now that I have gathered insight from others, I plan to use a few different photos from a range of people including athletes, teachers, and other students from the theater department and debate team.
