Project Selection-Magazine

Print journalism is unique in the way that it is now becoming more rare and refined. Instead of reading the newspaper or magazines daily, people now enjoy online news more commonly than they enjoy that of which is print. Therefore, print journalism is, in my opinion, becoming of greater importance than ever before. This generation's printed magazines may be the last, meaning these will be the physical remnants of modern day culture that are preserved throughout history. Anyway, creating a magazine appeals to me because it would be a project that permits the use of my writing talents. I love to write, and creating an informative magazine that would encourage the spread of knowledge would be a massive, yet extremely rewarding, challenge to take on. In Media Studies, I have found my Magazine Analysis of Time to be very intriguing. I learned a great deal about the layout of the infamous news magazine, including the use of national, world, and political articles in a specific order that encourages the reader to peruse through more than just the title article. Time provides a useful resource to refer back to if I choose to create a magazine since it consists of such a wide range of articles that are of such importance in today's politically and scientifically heavy society. Challenges that would be involved in the creation of a magazine would include finding a unique and interesting topic to base a monthly magazine off of. This would prove to be a challenge since I will have to find a wide array of stories and information to include in the issue and create an organized and visually appealing way to display all of the included information.

Three Revisions

I have now uploaded the updated versions of all four of my original pages. My three primary revisions included changing the color of my title and all other major texts, such as my table of contents, the name of my interviewee Charles Karcher in my two-page article, and the "Application Season Issue" subtitle that illustrates the importance of this specific issue. The much needed change in color has provided a nice alternative element to my magazine that represents a more diverse and interesting environment as opposed to the very unexceptional black and white draft that I first created. By adding a nice, dark, yet professional crimson red, it not only further elevated the visual appeal of my magazine, but it also drew a further connection between the prestigious Harvard University by using their signature color as my main theme. Target Audience Research Teen Vogue

Teen Vogue Condé Nast, the publisher of Vogue, The New Yorker, Wired, GQ, and Allure, publishes Teen Vogue.  The magazine is targeted for teenage girls between the ages of twelve and seventeen. It was first introduced to teens when the first issue was published in 2003, featuring Gwen Stefani. About 3.6 million readers are audience to the print magazines, including subscriptions and newsstands. The online website also generates an impressive audience. Social media accounts for 22.98% of website visits, proving that social media is a large part of the revenue of Teen Vogue. However, display advertising only accounts for 0.44% of website traffic, proving that teens prefer to search for websites or be referred to them by social media, specifically Facebook, Twitter, and Reddit. Reoccurring Features

The sections that will appear in every issue will consist of "Wise words from an educator," "Ten Majors Worthy of Consideration" and "How To Be Successful." "Wise Words from an Educator" will contain a new interview with an educator every issue, containing advice not only for managing high school, but also for college. This will be helpful for all students working on getting their high school and college diplomas, but especially the wide range of students who plan to become educators themselves. By gaining knowledge from educators of all backgrounds and ages, my readers will be able to gain insight into what it really takes to become a teacher or professor.
