Magazine Project Planning-Teen Vogue
Teen Vogue is similar to Seventeen magazine, since they are both aiming toward the same audience and include some of the same features. This magazine relates heavily to my magazine since it also covers social issues that concern teens in today's world, as well as advice and help on getting through high school and not college. The cover layout of Teen Vogue includes a lowercase "teen" in a white, bold font, followed by a polished, pink "VOGUE," which is visually appealing and draws attention to the title, without taking away from the closeup of Austin Mahone that appears underneath the title. In opposition to Seventeen, Teen Vogue has subtitles lining the left side of the cover, also in pink and white lettering. The colors that appear most often are black and white, which gives the magazine a sophisticated appearance. The occasional pop of red or green allows for the visuals of the issue to remain interesting and appealing. The same font is used throughout the whole magazine, typically in small black letters wit the occasional bolded name or brand to express the importance of something or to draw attention to it. Articles included in Teen Vogue occur on pages 56, 70, and 84. These articles are about one of the youngest Academy Award nominees ever named Quvenzhané Wallis, a New York City designer named Sandy Liang, and a breakout actress named Elena Kampouris. Advertisements occur regularly throughout the magazine, including those for Juicy Couture on page 85, one for a Marc Jacobs fragrance on page 71, as well as a two page Sunglass Hut ad on pages 74 and 75. The magazine includes a large number of pictures, ranging from photos of fashion trends, such as Prabal Gurung shoes, to photos of Italy, to photos of the cover star, Austin Mahone. Photos take up the majority of the magazine, there are few pages without a surplus of color and photographic elements. The circulation of Teen Vogue is 1,045,813. The magazine has won the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Magazine Overall Coverage in 2014.
