Magazine Project Planning-Seventeen

Seventeen magazine shares the same age audience as my magazine, therefore I will be reviewing this magazine and how it draws the attention of high school students worldwide. The cover is quite busy, as opposed to TIME, which consistently keeps a very simple cover. This shows that teenagers perhaps prefer magazines with lots going on, including a wide range of colors and subtitles on the cover. The cover of this particular issue includes a closeup of Yara Shahidi, as well as a small red circle under her face that gives a short description of her claim to fame and what issues she will be covering in this issue. The title of the magazine includes a large "seventeen," not capitalized, in large white, italicized writing. The right side of the cover includes blue and white lettering that describes the contents of the magazine. Throughout the magazine, there is a very large array of colors, including lots of blues and pinks. The fonts change regularly throughout the magazine, depending on the seriousness of the concepts being discussed. Articles discussing serious topics use plain white, blocky letters, whereas happy topics typically have purple, thin lettering. Articles included in this issue of Seventeen are "Find Money for College," "Mental Health," and "I Got My School to Teach Sex Ed." These articles occur on pages 16, 70, and 96. These articles are spread out amidst different music recommendations, tips for getting through the school day, as well as makeup recommendations and advertisements. These advertisements include ads for shoes on page 33, Freeman Beauty face masks on page 65, as well as hair clips on page 71. The pictures used through the magazine include pictures of current role models and celebrities, such as Zendaya or young CEO's of new businesses. There are also plenty of images of products and accessories that are likely to draw the attention of young girls reading Seventeen. These photos occur regularly throughout the issue. If not on every page, there are images on every other page. The current circulation of Seventeen is 2,020,492. Seventeen has been nominated for a Streamy award and for an Ellie Magazine award.
