Magazine Project Planning-Rachael Ray Everyday

Everyday is related to my magazine because it is lifestyle related and is meant to guide and help people. The difference is the age group, since my magazine focuses on high school aged students, but Everyday is targeted to an older audience. The cover of this issue contains a picture of Rachael Ray holding a Christmas wreath, introducing this issue as the holiday issue. The main colors used on this cover are red, black, and white. The "everyday" in the top of the cover is, again, not capitalized and is in black lettering. There are subtitles running up and down both the left and the right sides of the cover in black lettering, except for the occasional red phrase to grasp attention. The title of the magazine is at the bottom in a different, loopier font. Considering this is the Christmas and holiday issue, there is a large amount of red and green throughout the magazine. The majority of the articles include recipes that all share the same font. There are up to 4 or 5 recipes on a page at times, though the more holiday related recipes tend to consume an entire page, such as the Chocolate Peppermint Bites shown on page 102. This page includes a background of red sprinkles along with three giant images of blown up cookies laying on top of the recipe. While this specific recipe uses a white font in a black text box, it still follows the same font format as the recipes listed in the front of the magazine. This page also follows the earlier format regarding colors, the page in adorned in red sprinkles and peppermint. Articles included in Everyday are articles such as "Juicy Details," which discusses tangerine season on page 28, "51 Nifty Gifts for $50 or less" on page 63, which goes on until page 77, and gives suggestions for less expensive holiday gifts for those who are busy and in need of ideas during the holidays, as well as the "Buffet Your Holiday" article on page 105, which includes useful advice for holiday hosts as well as useful menu recommendations. Not surprisingly, the advertisements listed in Everyday are more often than not food related. Ads include Hillshire Farm Smoked Sausage on page 67, as well as a Kraft cheese ad on page 115, plus an ad that is directed toward the older audience that reads this magazine, a 2 page ad for a pharmaceutical called Lyrica that relieves chronic pain on pages 59 and 60. The photos maintain the theme of food and holiday gifts for the most part. The majority of recipes include a photograph of the finalized product. A prime example of the type of photography in Everyday is on page 38, which includes two recipes, for crackers and cheese spread that are combined in one visually appealing image including the crackers and spread in a box with a holiday dish towel. Other pictures include more holiday related images, such as Christmas trees, Menorahs, and wrapping paper on pages such as page 41, page 22, and page 70. The circulation of Everyday is 1,770,000, and the magazine has an audience of about 6 million readers and approximately 1.7 subscribers. In 2014, Rachael Ray was named to the President's Council, and Everyday is her magazine, so although the magazine itself has not been nominated for any awards, the magazine's author has.
